作者强调了免费（自由开放性）在吸引用户访问方面的重要性。不光是资源（内容，文章，软件，样例等等），还有可以激起用户好胜心或者赌运气的因素(contest or sweepstakes)，社区的开放性，在更新的新气象（current information）等等。

不过虽然Free很重要，我仍然相信要适度。一个考虑是保证社区内容有一定的纯度，另一个考虑是，太容易得到的东西，很少人愿意珍惜。
